BOMARSUND ring

A piece of Åland's history

Bomarsund Fortress was once the most magnificent building in Åland.

Construction of the gigantic fortress was started by the Russian military in 1832, but after more than twenty years it was only half-finished. The main fortress was to be a 290-meter-long semi-circular two-storey armoured barracks, designed to house 2 500 men. Six cannon towers were planned around the main fortress. During the Crimean War in 1854, the fortress was destroyed.

The Bomarsund Fortress was of great importance to Åland society and is still referred to as the "Bomarsund era". Read more about Bomarsund Fortress and its history here.

BOMARSUND was inspired by the hexagonal stones of the fortress in red GRANITE. BOMARSUND can be combined with a smooth ring to emphasize the design.
